Memory Keeping - My Reason Why...

10:43 PM

This is definitely my personal little catch-phrase.
It encapsulates what I do beautifully in three simple words.

CLICK

A moment arises and that camera comes up and...CLICK!
That moment is recorded!

CAPTURE

The moments that I capture are not just about special occasions, milestones, or even all the hunky dory happy times - they are a huge part of it for sure though.
However, there is a certain percentage of my captures that reveal more of the everyday-ness of my life; what I had for breakfast or where I had it, the sun streaming in the window, the clouds in the sky I noticed while I was hanging out the washing, what I am wearing, my kids playing nicely in their room with their fave toys, where I am standing right now.
A small glimpse into my life the way it is at that point in time.

CREATE

It's one thing to snap away with the camera and capture the memories -- it's another thing to actually print them off and DOCUMENT them!
Whether this is by placing them in albums you can flick through, get a photo book printed, or creatively record your memories through scrapbooking and/or pocket style memory keeping like Project Life, or so on...our photos of moments and memories deserve to be documented;
TELL YOUR STORY!

WHY?
Some may ask.
The answer is simple...

TO REMEMBER.

But we have a brain for that!

Um...yes we have.
We have a remarkable tool in our noggin' that files away every memory we have ever made.
But each memory is not always at the forefront of our mind.
It needs triggers to remember.

And for me, that's where memory keeping comes in.
I physically record memories in order to create trigger points that can set off a trip down memory lane in the future.
Things we can rejoice in; times we can learn from and recognise how far we have actually come; re-living our experiences and being grateful for our past and our future - after all they are both a part of us!

We are writing history.
And every click of that camera, every word jotted down, every moment recorded...is contributing to the history books of our lives.

And I am gonna make mine as jolly darn pretty and creative as I can!! ;-)

>> Photo lists are always great tools to create prompts for your photo taking. I love how one prompt can allow you to think differently and see things from a different perspective.
A fave of mine is:

** #fmsphotoaday by Fat Mum Slim

** Continuing on with the journalling prompts, 31 Things and 31 More Things are workshops designed by the awesome Ali Edwards, to get you writing and documenting the everyday stories of your life with prompts and even some photos to go with them. I can highly recommend the 31 Things course - I did it quite a few years back and loved it. I signed up to do the 31 More Things and am keen to pop back in and delve into that one more deeply too.
