Project Life Journalling Card Special...

Well, if you have been over at the Jot blog today (Thursday), you will have seen the projects I created for this little challenge of sorts. I submitted one layout and one set of journalling cards for the special blog post but I did manage to create more.

If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen this little sneak peak...

Craft House are a major sponsor for Jot Magazine and for being a part of the Jot Team, they sent each of us team members a prize pack. Part of this consisted of a mixed pack of journalling cards. Part of the challenge put before us for this special project was to pick out some of these cards and decorate them. Well you would of seen one of my sets but I would like to fully reveal the other set.

Due to the cards being mixed up, I am unsure which kits all of these come from exactly but the top corner with Mr Awesome on it, is a plain card from a textured 3x4 card set called COBALT.

I was going through my old photos stashed away in boxes (in my attempt to get my studio organised, all the boxes unpacked, etc etc) and found a few photos of Mr Awesome and I's first official date. THIS is an important story to document!!! And because I only had a few photos, using the journal cards was a perfect way to get it recorded in a quick, easy but effective way.

I am unsure whether these will go into a pocket-style album or if I will arrange these onto a cardstock background as a layout - at the moment they are just sitting aside in a nice neat pile and I am just happy that this part of our life story is recorded!!

My favourite bits...??

Well - *I like the effect that punched out half circle makes in the top middle card. And you will see that I turned it around and used the underside pattern on the card as well :-)

*Incorporporating your own writing into a layout or into your albums and pages always personalises things abit for me. I thought that including (what we can recall) what we were thinking on that day - quite some time ago now - about each other. I love that my man 'came to the party' and actually wrote something for this on the card in the top right side. And yes - let's hear it...

Awwwww.

*Another element I like here is cutting a photo down to fit a space on the card. Like, for example, on the bottom right card with the photo of me on the log.

Yes, I'm blond here. And skinny....-er than now. Hehe ;-)

Anyway, it kind of makes the photo look like it was actually part of the card.

So that's my journalling card set.

I also created another layout - which I actually did first - but I didn't submit it. I created the one that is in the Jot blog post as I (and I'm telling you this because I like to keep things real here in my little space!)...I botched the first one up. At the last minute.

And I really liked it before I wrecked it.

Grrrr!

So then I added a few more things to try and fix it. With a little improvement.

But it looked a tad cluttered then.

So Plan B happened. And I LOVE that one too.

Anyway.

I am going to be brave and show you the layout that I didn't submit.

Because there are actually lots of little parts of it that I really like!

The colouring is a tad off in this shot. I have really struggled with taking the photos of layouts lately. Can't seem to find the right spot at our new place here in town that is best to capture things on camera!

^And this part is probably my favourite bit of the layout. Two PL cards crossed over one another and the photo of my big girl sleeping as the centre piece. I love how the words on the PL card ('SNAPSHOT A Photo Speaks A Thousand Words') just sums it all up perfectly!!

All up - I used eight different journal cards from the stash on this layout!

Five layered in the top section, two (as mentioned above) in the bottom section, and one card I cut up to use as some of the text words - Laugh, Cherish, Love, Adore.

Some of my fave embellishments on this layout are those little stars, the sequins, rhinestone and cherry flair badge - all from 'A Piece of Cake Designs' kits :-)

Jot Mood Board Challenge #9...

And what a dandy mood board it is this time!

Fellow Jot Team member, Kim Jeffress was the guest pinner for this challenge and came up with these fun and funky colour combinations!!

I delved into my stash and come up with an array of embellishments and papers. I decided to go bright and bold with my layout. Here it is...

Go the orange!! LOL!!

Materials:

CARDSTOCK: Bazzil - orange

PAPERS: blue paint sample card [Thank you Bunnings ;-)], vellum (to back photo)

ALPHABET: Thickers - black glitter, my own writing, 'best' word from a Kaiser Collectables pack

EMBELLISHMENTS: green string, patterned fabric, Kaiser Collectables motifs, BasicGrey die-cut shapes (frame), Dear Lizzy patterned chipboard shapes (pink arrow, camera), Kaiser stamp set (clouds), dotted stencilling

OTHER: white and black jouranl pens, stapler, sewing machine, thread, stencil, white ink pad

I had a little difficulty in photographing this layout - I think mainly due to its brightness. I just had a hard time getting the photo true to the colour, even in natural light the camera didn't seem to want to capture it right!! But I did finally get one that came the closest to the true look. Then it came to cropping and I realised I still need to work on lining the camera up correctly so as I can get a true square crop - none of this 'one-corner-cut-off-because-it's-crooked' business! Grrrrr!

Any tips anyone? What do you find is the best way in photographing your layouts?

There Is Still Movement At The Station...

Yep, I'm still kicking around!

I thought I would come and update you on life here in town.

Well...

It's great. We love being close to everything - the beach, the shops, the school. Walking places is a wonderful luxury. It's lovely to be able to get out in the breeze (if any) and soak up the sunshine on a good little stroll into town.

I love looking out the office and my bedroom window at the gorgeous big tree with stunning red flowers on it. I have no idea what kind of tree it is (some of you garden gurus might be able to shed some light for me!?!) but it just looks so welcoming and I feel so relaxed looking at it!

We are mostly unpacked. It has been a slow process due to becoming a tad run down and battling a dodgy dose of chronic fatigue. But just to digress a little bit here - I had been seeing pictures and mentions of some recipes from a great looking e-book by Amy Crawford of The Holistic Ingredient and I bought it. I have been making (and consuming!) some of her breakfast dishes - OH MY GOODY GOODNESS - sooooo yum! And it's filling and since starting to eat using whole foods my energy has been better and I have the capability to get through the day without any lazing in the chair exhausted and helpless and in need of naps to get through. Hopefully I can keep this up. I will share more about this and my fave recipes from her book in another post :-)

Anyway, back to unpacking. There is still a little bit to do but the place is in a functional, living condition and we are really happy with the rental property we live in :-)

On the creative front...

Well, you are most likely aware that I have been busily creating for Jot Issue 2 which is OUT NOW. And it is jam packed with such goodness. And it is proving to be SUPER popular. The stats are astounding and all of us at Jot, most of all Kim Archer - the founder and creator of this fabulous publication - are gobsmacked. I am so honoured to be part of such a great team and associated with such greatness :-)

So you can check out the new issue HERE!

I will be back over the next week with some posts about my layouts in the mag with abit more detail.

But also be sure to check out the Jot blog - there is info about the challenges showcased in Issue 2 and a chance to link up any projects you have created inspired by these...also there is a step by step rundown of a layout using just journal cards. And...just today there was a post by fellow Jot team member Lauren Hender with an awesome layout she created and a very useful little tip you will most definitely find quite nifty. We are already getting down and busy with creating and planning for Issue 3 - plus a few extra little projects and inspiration coming up in the mean time which will be revealed in the coming weeks so keep an eye on the Jot blog and here for more lovely, scrappy, papercrafty, memory-keeping goodness!
